Wine Wednesday theme: Gamay wines, Summer’s Perfect Red

This week’s Wine Wednesday celebrates Gamay, the vibrant red grape behind the legendary wines of France’s Beaujolais region. If you think all red wines need to be bold and heavy, Gamay is ready to change your mind.

Bursting with juicy flavors of strawberry, raspberry, cherry, and cranberry, accented by delicate floral notes of violet and a hint of earthiness, Gamay is light-bodied, refreshingly crisp, and incredibly food-friendly. Its bright acidity and soft tannins make it one of the few red wines that’s even better served with a slight chill on a warm summer evening.

While Beaujolais remains the spiritual home of Gamay and produces approximately 75% of the world’s Gamay, the grape is successfully grown in several other wine regions around the world. In addition to other parts of France, Gamays can be found in Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and right here in the Willamette Valley.

WWS clients and guests are invited to bring a bottle of your favorite Gamay—or discover a new one—and join fellow wine lovers as we compare tasting this legendary wine.

We look forward to seeing you Wednesday. Cheers!
